she liked Imaginary Men best of all

Don’t be fancy, just get dancy!

I spent the entire weekend re-organizing my house that had been sadly neglected during all my adventures last year. To break up the monotony of sorting papers and going through piles of crap – I occasionally got up and danced around to some of the cool tunes I had downloaded using my xmas iTunes gift card (thanks mom!)

The one that seemed to be on repeat the most was P!nk’s Raise Your Glass. I’ve mentioned before that I love P!nk. I think she’s fun and sassy and her songs are wicked catchy. She has a great voice and her Take No Shit Attitude is exciting. In an age of total PR Constructed Celebrity Soundbites, it is so refreshing to hear someone say “Kanye West is the biggest piece of sh– on earth. Quote me,” as she did during the stupid Kanye/Taylor Swift VMA nonsense (and to top it off, referred to him as “douche bag”!! LMAO!)

So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways – what a great sentiment. It is fabulous that “kids today” have a pop star telling them it’s OK to be different, that being unique and weird is cool and to celebrate it, not let anyone tell you different.

Her musical slamming of celebutard girls like Paris, Lindsay and Sisters Olsens and Simpson is pretty ballsy and brilliant:

I’m so glad that I’ll never fit in, that will never be me – outcasts and girls with ambition that’s what I want to see – HELL YEAH PREACH IT SISTER!!!

So whether she’s telling skeevy guys to fuck off (U+UR Hand), telling her (then estranged husband) her life is better without him – to his face! (So What) or doing acrobatics while singing live about desperation and need (Sober) – she’s always outrageous, fun and honest. She’s awesome and yet another GirlCrush of mine who is pregnant! What’s up with that??

  1. ..aaand yet another thing that we agree on! “Raise your glass” is on constant loop in my house and my ipod is full of Pink songs! I find her “you’re ok just the way you are, so fuck them!” attitude so inspirational and downright freeing! She’s a ballsy chick and I admire her.

  2. Excellent post, Amy! You’ve totally pinned down what makes Pink such a uniquely talented role model, and a force to be reckoned with, in the music industry. I got to see her in concert a few years back, and she was JUST AS AMAZING live, if not doubly so.

If I had to pick a favorite Pink song, mine would probably be Bad Influence. The song is just so catchy and clever, and the lyrics never fail to make me LOL.

“I’m the instigator of underwear, showing up, here and there. Uh oh (Oh No), I’m always on a mission from the get-go. So, what if it’s only one-clock in the afternoon. It’s never too soon to send out all the invitations to the last night OF YOUR LIFE.”

    Classic!

    • LMAO! I don’t know that song, I’ll have to go find it. She has the most clever lyrics I swear. I can’t stop hollering “so raise your glass if you are wrong – in all the right ways!!”

Plus the spoken line in U+UR Hand “there you are, high-fivin’ talkin’ shit, but you’re goin’ home alone, aren’t ya” Best. Kiss off. Ever.

She also has a song called Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely) which is about needing space from your boyfriend/husband/whoever and includes the hilarious lyric “I don’t believe Adam and Eve spent every goddamn day together” BWAH!!! You should check out the whole song – it has so many good lines.

I can’t wait to see her live. I’m kicking myself for missing her “Funhouse” tour. I should have KNOWN that all my kick-ass fangirl friends would love an ass kicker like P!nk!!

  3. Love Love Love this post!!!!!! Pink’s the absolute best. I remember during the Kanye/Taylor thing, she had said he was lucky she wasn’t wearing brass knuckles that night. Who says that?! And she performs on trapeze sets and does acrobatics too, which makes her even more awesome. I saw her live for the first time when she opened for *NSync in 2000 and in one hour she had that whole audience in her hand. “Most Girls” will be my fave song of her’s forever, but all of them are brilliant.

I have a feeling we’ll be following her on tour next time around 🙂

    • I saw her w/ *NSync too! But I wasn’t as into her R&B stuff. I SO wish I had been smart enough to go see “Funhouse”!! The concert they show on Palladia looks awesome. We will definitely be P!nk Fangirl Stalkers on the next tour! Pop that baby out girl and get goin’!!

  4. I heart Pink so hard. A couple of years back I watched an interview with her on an in-depth Aussie interview show and was completely taken with her poise, humour, intelligence and absolute genuineness. She is one of those girls, like Candice Accola, that I wish I could invite to paint our nails sometimes… PINK of course 😉

    • Good point that I neglected to include Cherie – that despite her brashness she is very well-spoken and smart. She would make an AWESOME addition to the Imaginary-Girlie-Sleepover! She’d be the one when boys drove up and lurked outside the windows – to go yell down profane and hilarious things at them while we all rolled around on the bed giggling!
