Mullen Monday: my coveted mug edition

When I was a teen my mom went to Ireland and while she was there she searched far and wide to find me this:

When she brought it home I decreed I was the only person allowed to use it. Chocolate milk tasted especially good in it 😉

One morning I came into the kitchen to find my father drinking coffee out of it. After having a teenage size hissy fit that he did not fully comprehend, I retired the cup from the kitchen and took it to my room. Somehow it got a little chip above the handle. I’m not sure how that happened, but I’m sure when it did I had a bit of a meltdown over it!

In Dublin last year I was excited to add to my Mullen Coat of Arms collection with a framed version, coasters (!) and a pin that is on the shoulder strap of my travel purse. In fact that pin made it safely there through the whole trip, and then fell off as we were de-planing in Boston. I had another teenage era meltdown over it and even went back into the plane and had the flight attendants helping me look! I had to say it had “sentimental value” because “it is a Coat of Arms pin for the family name of my King Crush” sounded too much like something that would put me on a Do Not Fly List.

Thank GOD the back had popped off on the floor of the plane, and the pin itself had fallen INSIDE my bag!! Luck of the Irish indeed. Later that year I added a Mullen blanket to my collection. It is right here on my couch, across from the bookcase where the mug sits. Like any of this should surprise you.

  1. I love it all!!! And when we hit up Ireland I could pick up stuff with my name on it from the Marino village…or not. I think I’ll stick with Mullen swag!

And I think Larry Bear would like to see Ireland too. He’s has to see where he came from! I bet his bear friends are waiting in Artane for his return 😉

  2. I am pretty sure I got that mug at BROWN & THOMAS. It should be in a glass case for future preservation! I remember when Steve drank coffee from the mug – too funny!!!!

  3. no surprise to me missy i am mulling it all over.:)
