Mullen Monday: It’s his birthday!!

October 31, commonly known as Halloween – but for me more importantly recognized as Larry Mullen Jr.’s birthday!! The day The Man, The Myth, The Mullen was born in the Dublin suburb of Artane, who would grow up to play drums, post a note on a school bulletin board, form the Greatest Band Ever, and be really really beautiful.

Last year to celebrate this day Jill and I ate cupcakes adorned with his face in Times Square in the middle of the night. This year there were not quite the same level of shenanigans (given my Chest Cold from Hell keeping me in pajamas on my couch all weekend.) But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t take the time to wish my King Crush Happy Birthday wishes and be grateful – once again, for his place in this world and what it has brought to my life.

I’m sure his bandmates would agree – given that he gave them all their first (and likely ONLY) jobs. So supposedly this song is for Nelson Mandela, but I like to think he opened his door on Birthday morning to find these two jamming away for him:

  1. I never saw this before-so adorable!

I’m sure if he did open the door the first thing he’d say would be “Bono didn’t we discuss no hats inside? Oh and I suppose Adam had a “previous engagement” he couldn’t get out of right?”

I’m sure he had a really happy birthday this year-compared to last year when Fergie slithered her python face behind the drum kit at that R&R gig while we waited outside with cupcakes and serenades. Happy Birthday Big General-we (and the Little General) love ya!!

  2. Happy birthday Hitman!

  3. Drinking a Guinness in his honor right now! Happy Birthday, Larry!
