Here’s what a best friend does for you:
Keeps your secrets; makes you laugh; lends you money; lets you spend their birthday on their couch watching Princess Diana’s funeral; holds your hand on bumpy plane rides; fakes fights with you for silly photos along cliff edges; finds you apartments to sublet; holds you as you sob when boys break your heart.
Talks you through your marriage breaking up while 8 months pregnant; drives around in the middle of the night in the woods and turns the car off to get scared with you; gifts you with pies and money for iPhones; supports your obsessive personality no matter how ridiculous you’re being.
Looks at dating sites with you to weed out the good from the bad; asks you to be their maid of honor and then makes sure their hairdresser makes you look really good; gives you good advice; gives you good medical advice; encourages your writing; finds you coveted door hangers and nesting dolls.
Always makes time for you even though they are busy with a demanding career and a beautiful baby and a good marriage and cute doggies and lots of family and in-laws.
Rachel has been my best friend pretty much my entire life. She’s awesome in so many ways – I’ve only listed (some) of the ones that pertain to me ;-p But I wish for everyone to have a best friend as incredible, loving, loyal and supportive as she is.
