“A place you’ve never been before”

When I was in Las Vegas I went for a “Solo Desert Drive” up to Red Rock Canyon. I wanted to see the Mojave since I’d never been, and also so I could believe Brandon Flowers when he talks about how beautiful Las Vegas is away from the Strip.

It was really breathtakingly beautiful. It was an amazing, emotional, exciting day and I was actually glad to do it on my own and really experience my surroundings, instead of jabbering incessantly like I would have been doing with a companion!

I also snagged me some sand and my amazing Craft Queen Laura gave me a great idea for how to display it:

Instead of just sand in a jar (which I would have done), she suggested printing one of my desert photos to put inside a votive holder, to sit in the sand! The photo then blends INTO the sand! Brilliant! I took the idea a step further and made another one that included lyrics to Joyride.

With sand to spare I wanted to share it with Kathryn and Jill, who I spent the rest of my time in Vegas with and shared some pretty incredible moments. With both having birthdays this month, each got a little Mojave/Joyride treat in their gift bags:

And my iPod seemingly sensing my surroundings like it did when it played Read My Mind as I came in over Nevada – shuffled me into The Killers When You Were Young as I left the canyons of the Mojave —

we’re burning down the highway skyline / on the back of a hurricane / that started turning / when you were young

It was perfection.

  1. Yes sign me up for a desert drive too please!!!

Love my sand-currently chilling on my dresser in between a flamingo and my Bran candle votive and coaster 🙂

  2. Man that sounds soo awesome!! I definitely want to do that drive myself =]

    • You definitely should. I hiked up an overlook and played the first “Flamingo” clip on repeat – just the desert winds and Brandon “ahh ahh ahh-ing”. Amazing!
