I am very excited that Kathy Griffin will be co-hosting CNN’s New Years Eve show with Anderson Cooper again. My friend and I watched them last year and laughed ourselves sick. Kathy is hilarious and rude and Anderson is polite and giggly.
Here’s how it usually works:
- Kathy keeps saying more and more outrageous things and Anderson giggles and scolds, “you can’t say that!”
- Anderson starts getting into it with Kathy and snarking on his own and revealing more than he wants us to know about his love of pop culture-y things
- Anderson remembers he’s on TV and he’s a classy news anchor from Old Money, and starts getting nervous about Kathy and what Kathy got him to say
- Clock strikes midnight and Kathy does things like threaten to molest Anderson and he giggles some more and looks really nervous that she’ll follow through
It is totally awesome. They should be perma-hosts as far as I’m concerned. There is no better way to ring in the new year then in hysterics.
Apparently Kathy had to sign a contract that stated if she cursed on-air she’d have to re-pay her salary to CNN. She also thinks that the money they are paying her is well worth giving back if she gets the kind of free publicity her raunchiness got her last year.
Here’s a taste of what to expect – an interview on CNN before last year’s show. The whole thing is hilarious but around 8:19 Kathy ramps up the teasing and Anderson’s giggling gets completely out of control:
