25 Days / Day 3 / Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Who: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, former child star, Indie King and new Lloyd Dobler

Why: He’s adorable. He sings and dances. He’s the new Lloyd Dobler!

When: This summer

Level of Obsession: As soon as I saw early trailers for (500) Days of Summer I decided he was going to be my “Summer Boyfriend.” To prepare I stocked the Netflix queue with a lot of his really strange, not always-very-good independent films. Some bored the hell out of me (Brick) some gave me nightmares (Mysterious Skin). But he was always watchable

“Ahhhh!” Moment(s): Playing house in IKEA in (500)DoS. I turned to my friend and said “if I could find a guy that liked playing house in IKEA? I would consider getting married again!” And of course the post-coital song and dance to Hall and Oates

When they were casting for Twilight I was pro-JGL for Jacob Black. He could pull off the look and would have the requisite intensity for the pissy-at-vampires-parts. However, there is no way in hell he’d ever be in those movies! Nor does he need to be. He scored a rom-com hit and a money-making action movie in this summer. He’s just fine without adding pining werewolf boy to his credentials

  1. Doesn’t get much better than this…

  2. The episode was called “Eric’s Buddy,” and, in my humble opinion, it was one of the show’s best. It even features Topher and JGL in a pretty hilarious “buddy” montage to the song “My Best Friend.”

If I’ve piqued your interest, you can catch it here . . .

This is just the first 10 minutes or so. (Silly YouTube and their space limitations). But I think the rest of the episode is available there as well . . .

  3. In the past week, I have had TWO random sitings of Joseph Gordon Levitt on my television screen.

Do you remember his guest starring role on That 70’s Show as Buddy Morgan, the rich popular kid who became Eric’s lab partner and then proceeded to make out with him, because he assumed that Eric was gay? Classic!

Even randomer was when I caught him on a Roseanne rerun as D.J.’s friend, Gordon. According to IMDB, Joseph Gordon Levitt was on FOUR episodes of Roseanne as that character. Go figure!

Apparently, he was also on two episodes of Family Ties (also according to IMDB) playing “Dougie.” Did this guy ever sleep as a child?

    • I never saw JGL on T70sS. I must have stopped watching before that. Although I’d like to see it now! JGL kissing TG?? Hello sign me up!!

He definately did work his little butt off as a kid, with all those guest appearances and Third Rock.
