25 Days / Day 1 / Brandon Lee

Who: Brandon Lee, actor, martial artist, son of Bruce, tragic death

Why: He seemed poised for a big career. His fight scenes were amazingly athletic and graceful. That bone structure!

When: College, mid-90’s

Level of Obsession: Well he had already died, so that made it both poignant and pointless. I did have The Crow poster on my dorm room wall and saw the movie quite a few times. And bought it on VHS. And the soundtrack. And a book and maybe some 8×11 stills.

“Ahhhh!” Moment(s): The fight scene in Rapid Fire where a guy is holding his leg, and he somehow kicks the guy with his other leg doing some crazy-ass mid-air spin that defied any logic but was a real maneuver that I watched about a dozen times. The scene in The Crow where he does a shoot-out of the bad guys while walking on a table in a black leather trenchcoat.

My mom and I visited his and his father’s graves in Seattle several years ago. I took a picture and when it developed we both saw what looked like an image of Brandon in the smooth rock of the gravestone. Not believing in ghost-y stuff, we went back up there so I could see if there was an engraving that we’d missed. There was not. The picture still freaks me out.
