Fringe – it’s not just about the jackets anymore!

So my love of Josh Jackson in pea coats has been documented here  which was the sole reason I watched Fringe for the most part. I tuned out mid-S1 but have been watching faithfully this season (thank you DVR!) and have to say it has become quite the sturdy little show.

I like that they are full on cribbing from The X-Files with this whole Super Soldier thing. Since they paid homage in the premiere two different times (practically establishing that the show exists in a universe where the XF actually exists which is kinda awesome), I’m good with them stealing whatever they want. At least they are up front about it.

Anna Torv has also gotten much better as Olivia Dunham. Last year I called her “Agent Boring” because she was the weakest link in the cast.  Her quest to figure out what happened to her on “the other side” has been entertaining as she really sells the confusion and frustration of filling in the missing pieces (she’s also consistent with her limp which a continuity nerd like me appreciates.)

I like that they are answering questions and solving mysteries on a regular basis unlike other shows from the Bad Robot realm. It makes it worth investing in the plot when there is going to be a payoff sooner than later. And the pseudo-science stuff – eh. I hardly ever get what they are talking about but it rarely matters. Thank god they have Astrid who seems capable of doing every damn science-y thing under the sun with little problem.

And last but not least – while there have been no pea coat sightings (so far), the costumer continues to win my undying love week after week with an array of Hot Black Jackets for Pacey to wear. I usually spend my viewing time debating myself: “The leather one? Or the one with the collar? How is a girl to choose??”

Never mind. It’s this one. The pissed off and wet look certainly helps the cause.

  1. This show is a real X-tension of the X-files. I am actually involved in developing Unified Field technologies. We may be putting one of this TV show main characters on our radionic technologies.

  2. I have these episodes piled up on my DVR. I am just waiting for inspiration to hit me to start watching them. But Damn, seeing him in that coat reminds me of why that boy really needs to put a restraining order out on me!

  3. This week’s Entertainment Weekly has this exact picture featured in the “Where to get it” column for the jacket! It is $200 and the liner has the Union Jack on it (by Triumph Motorcycles)

  4. lovely male protaganist amy but the show scares me so bad i have to turn it off v scary.
