I love to pull things out of magazines. I used to do photo collages of clothes from fashion magazines which is odd since I don’t know or care much about fashion.
But in an old Vogue or Elle I must have found this guy: The Lime Juice Guy. It was an ad for Rose’s Sweetened Lime Juice . I cut him out and slapped him on my door (in high school) on my Wall of Men (in college) and then he resided in my attic until recently where I rediscovered him and pulled him out to put on my new WoM.
So for 20+ years I have thought this boy was so dreamy and English-looking and had the face and haircut that I just lurrvved as a 14-year-old and a rebellious leather jacket, and I still think he’s cute and I just noticed something at the bottom of the ad that I have never, ever seen in all the years I’ve carried this dog-eared clipping around: James Mathers Photographed by Perry Ogden 1985
What the heck? Lime Juice Guy has a name? He’s not just some cute boy model from the 80’s?? And just like that, over two decades of mystery erased by a Google search: James Mathers is a 44 year old LA-born artist who is indeed, my Lime Juice Guy:
